Putting a donation page on your website, or putting a donation box in your office, is a form of public fundraising but chances are no one will make a fuss about it. Same with holding a charity event or performance to raise funds, as long as the event isn't too big or broadcast on TV. But by public fund raising, I mean fundraising through more public venues, like putting a donation box in the middle of a major mall in Beijing, or advertising through the newspaper or tv, or putting up a billboard in the subway station. I hope this helps.NGOs in Chinahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07936881317299246085noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7328018645779167828.post-82623603413905534002011-04-21T10:19:48.081-07:002011-04-21T10:19:48.081-07:00Hi Shawn,

As you say, private foundations and NGOs are not allowed to raise funds "publicly." What exactly does that mean? Many Chinese NGOs & private foundations have websites that include a donation page, and they may even say "donate now" or something similar. Newsletters and stories on websites also highlight ways to donate. So clearly these organizations can raise funds. I guess my question is, what does "raise funds publicly" mean (or what is meant by "publicly")? And what does it mean to raise funds privately? <br />Any enlightenment you can offer will be greatly appreciated!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
